Local Missoula had a chance to sit down with
Tiffany for a little Q & A.
LM: Which is your favorite piece?
Tiff: “I don’t really have a specific favorite. I spent a bit
of time with all that are being shown, so there is definitely a
kindred tie with all of them. Yet, The Fainting Couch, Lucie’s
Premonition, The Story of Lundy and the Scarf Anecdote are a bit
more personal because they have a story or are for people I adore.
LM: What seems to be your inspiration?
Tiff: Since I can remember, creating has always been a passion
of mine. I am not sure exactly where it comes from. Just enjoying
the process and the fact that others enjoy it too. Really it just
comes to me whenever. Tiny aspects of general life could set it off
at any random moment.
LM: Are all your works based on a similar idea or emotion? Is
there a connection?
Tiff: As far as this show is concerned, there is no real subtle
connection. The two of Dancing Delectica are eventually going to be
a completed series. They seem to work well together mainly because
of certain things I enjoy painting, but I feel it is a bit of a
phase. I suppose each piece has an array of different emotions due
to different days and times.
LM: Your strips remind me a bit of Gorey’s work. Is he an
influence of yours?
Tiff: Subconsciously, he may be an influence. I have never
gone into them thinking of Gorey, but I have always admired his
work.
LM: What do you think of the space a Butterfly for your show?
Tiff: I have always like the art wall at the herb. I feel that
the color of the actual wall brings out a lot in my work. It is
also nice since so many different people come here and I enjoy
conduct my own personal study on how they react to my work.
(Mixed Medium) is a series in progress that I plan to continue. This one makes me think of a progression from chaos into tranquility, but the series itself was supposed to be composed in a story of the dancer dancing through each frame to eventually crawl through a hole in the wall. (A hopeful play on the texture and sizes) #2 is a close up and a bit smaller. (Ink Panels) originally spawned from the creation of the scarf anecdote. I hope to continue with these and potentially publish a book. I derived it for my mother and from her love of the Victorian era (Mixed Medium) is a very special piece created for my cousin Cindi. It appeared in my mind and I am not sure why, but I remember that it was specifically for her. “What’s that supposed to mean?” replied Cindi. A few months later Nico was conceived. This month it hangs for Pela. (Mixed Medium) was created for one of my dear friends, English professor Gary Lundy. It was his story of meeting a girl on the beach who wanted him to dance with her. Lundy refused the offer because he was young and nervous. But now he wishes he would have danced instead of watching her dance away. (Mixed Medium) is a piece that was commissioned by Ed Scott for his daughter Rhonda Cubulski. This piece portrays being a good mother and a good daughter. This one definitely drained my creativity for a while. (Ink Panels) was created as a dedication to my time spent with Wally.
